How to configure GMail to fetch and send your email

To carry out the instructions in this article you will need the Settings for your mailbox.

These will look something like:

Incoming mail server: mail.2020media.com
Username: me@mydomain.com
Password: mypass235#

Outgoing mail server: smtp.2020smtp.net
Username: me@mydomain.com
Password: mypass235#

Sometimes the outgoing mail server username is like this:

Username: mydomain
Password: mypass235#

Now let's get started.

Step 1

Log into your GMail account, and click on the settings button at the top right (The little Cog icon), and then click Settings.

Step 2

From the menu, click Accounts and Import, and from the settings that appear, click on Check mail from other accounts.

Step 3

Enter the full email address of the mailbox for which you wish to collect mail.

Step 4

Select Import emails from my other account (POP3) and then Next

Step 5

Now enter your Incoming email settings from the details we've provided. Gmail may guess some details - please overwrite these as needed. For Port, change this to 995 and tick the Always use a secure connecton (SSL) option. We also recommend ticking the Label incoming mesages box, so you can easily see which emails are which later.

You can also choose to leave a copy on our server. If you might want to stop using gmail with your 2020media email in the future, we recommend this.

Step 6 - setting up email sending

The next step is configuring gmail to send email on your behalf. Tick the box I want to be able to send email as and then Next

Step 7

Enter the Name you want emails to appear From and we recommend unticking the Treat as an alias box.

Step 8

Now enter the outgoing SMTP server information as provided by 2020Media.

Also, change the Port to 465 and ensure the Secured connection using SSL is ticked.

Step 9

If all settings have been entered correctly, you should now have completed the setup process but there are further steps to do so please don't stop here!

Firstly gmail needs to check you are actually the person that email belongs to so they will send a link which you must click in order to be able to send emails via gmail.

Please complete this step - their email will take a few minutes to arrive.

Step 10 - Configure gmail to send FROM your domain automatically

Return to the Accounts and Import page in Settings and scroll to the Send mail as section.

Tick the box next to Reply from the same address as the mesasge was sent to.

You can also optionally choose to make the default From address your domain - click the make default link.

That's it - gmail is now setup to send and receive email from your 2020Media mailbox.
